Italian Wine Growing Region - AbruzzoWine of Abruzzo, ItalyAbruzzo Abruzzo is a region in Italy, its western border lying less than 50 miles due east of Rome. Abruzzo borders the region of Marche to the north, Lazio to the west and south-west, Molise to the south-east, and the Adriatic Sea to the east. As t he Abruzzo region spans from the the Adriatic coast to the east and the Appenine mountains to the west, boasting a wide range of microclimates in between. Consequently it is a region where vines grow easily and prolifically. The mostly small, agricultural holdings produce wine, cereals, sugar beet, potatoes, olives, vegetables, fruit and dairy products. Other traditional products are saffron and liquorice. Most wines produced are either from Trebbiano, which produces mainly youthful, light white wines, or Montepulciano, which can produce a range of styles from cherry pink Cerasuolo to full bodied reds which while attractive when young, can have good ageing potential.
